Cement Development Program and Summer Internship


CEMENT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER (CDE) PROGRAM

  • You are relocated to one of our manufacturing plants where you work for two years under a mentor.

  • Year one is spent establishing an in-depth education on the cement manufacturing process.

  • Year two focuses on your area of interest and continued development.

  • At the end of your second year, you will be promoted to a role with Ash Grove that both suits your interests and capitalizes on your skills.

  • Graduates of our programs develop into future company leaders!

This is a full-time, salaried position provided with the regular benefits package of a full-time employee.


CEMENT DEVELOPMENT SAFETY (CDS) PROGRAM

  • You are relocated to one of our cement plants where you work for up to two years under a Safety Manager.

  • Year one is spent learning how our safety programs mesh with our cement manufacturing process - includes in-depth training on cement manufacturing, MSHA regulations and inspections, and our SEE STOP DO safety program.

  • Year two focuses on honing your skills as a safety leader in our cement plant - includes facilitating MSHA trainings, plant walkarounds for safety checks, conducting toolbox talks with employees

  • After the successful completion of your development program, we will explore opportunities within Ash Grove for you as a safety leader!

This is a full-time, salaried position provided with the regular benefits package of a full-time employee.


SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

  • You will be relocated to one of our manufacturing plants for the summer with housing provided.

  • You are assigned a formal mentor and multiple engineering projects to get hands-on experience for the summer in a paid internship role.

  • At the end of the summer, we fly you to our corporate headquarters to present your project to company leaders.

  • Our internships can lead to full-time job opportunities after you graduate!

Cement Development Program (CDP) FAQs

  • No - you will be based at one plant for the duration of the two-year program, but you will travel once every quarter for in-person technical training at different Ash Grove locations across the U.S. and Canada (company-sponsored). It is rotational in that you will study and be trained in many different engineering and operations areas of your plant.

  • Ideally, we would promote you to a full-time engineering position with Ash Grove, at the same facility as your CDP or possibly a different one. Most program graduates move into an engineering, leadership, or maintenance role depending on their skills and preferences.

  • The Cement Development Program positions are treated like any other full-time, salaried positions. You can read more about the benefits we offer HERE!

Summer Internship FAQs

  • Students in their sophomore year and who are studying chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mining engineering, chemistry, or occupational health and safety.

  • You will be placed at one of our twelve plants for the summer. Over the course of your internship, you will work with your formal mentor on several projects or safety initiatives at the plant. At the end of the summer, we fly you to our corporate headquarters in Overland Park, KS to present your work and project(s) to y our fellow interns and company leadership.

  • We will reimburse reasonable moving expenses and milage for the move. We will also pay for housing, utilities, and internet directly (no housing stipend or reimbursement). Daily travel to and from the plant is your responsibility.

  • Yes - interns can be presented with additional internship opportunities or full-time job offers with Ash Grove.
